About Veneto IGT Rosso

IGT stands for Indicazione geografica tipica which translates into “typical of a geographic region.” The IGT Veneto classification was introduced in 1995. This category allows the use of international varieties, and was meant to gives producers the freedom to experiment and produce wines that reflect the quality potential of each region.

Lenotti’s “Rosso Passo” does just that, using a 50-50 blend of Merlot and Sangiovese grapes that has produced a superb wine.

Merlot grapes originated in France, with the name first appearing in 1824, taken from the French name for black birds who liked to feast on the sweet grape. Merlot wines are one of the world’s most popular. Used as a blend it contributes velvety, plummy qualities to a wine.

The Sangiovese grape is Italy’s most well-known and widely planted red grape variety. It is known for taking its time to ripen, mature and sweeten. In a blend such as this Rosso Passo, the grape contributes to its acidity and level of tannin. It also adds to the fruitiness of the wine.
