About Colli Tortonese Barbera DOC

Colli Tortonese Barbera DOC is a mildly oaked dry wine with a naturally high acidity and low tannin quality. The classification requires that the wine is made with 85% Barbera.

Barbera is the most planted grape varietal in Piedmont and produces a fresh, juicy wine with notes of strawberry and sour cherry. In Italian history, cultivation is traced back to the 13th century, while Italian immigrants brought the grapes to North and South America where it is also cultivated today. But the Piedmont region is where the Barbera reigns supreme. The fairly dry and hilly Piedmont region enjoys a lot of sun and creates an ideal climate for wine-grape growing in general.

Barbera is known in Italy as “the wine of the people” because of its affordability for everyday consumption. While it is a light-bodied wine, Barbera has a richness that pairs well with well-seasoned red meats, mushroom dishes and sharp cheeses. This “common wine” pairs with fine gourmet dining – a common Italian combination is to enjoy it with truffle-oil infused mushroom pizza.
